Gingival Retraction - Techniques and Materials: a Review
نویسنده
چکیده
Though the necessity to place the finish line into the gingival sulcus obviously has a negative effect on the quality of the impression,4,8-10 aspects of gingival retraction have only been sparsely investigated.3-5 The aim of gingival retraction is to allow access for the impression material beyond the abutment margins and to create space for the impression material to be sufficiently thick. Tear resistance of the impression material can be affected by the material thickness.6 Gingival retraction should be mandatory prior to impression so as to expose the prepared tooth surfaces.7-8 Impression with less sulcular width have higher incidences of voids, tearing of impression materials, and reduction in marginal accuracy.9-10 Occasionally, gingival retraction is required in order to permit the completion of tooth preparation or to allow cementation of laboratory-manufactured restorations.11 A number of studies have been done on the various materials and methods used for gingival retraction.7

Altering internal surface of putty impression material for better recording of tooth preparation margins
This article describes the clinical procedures for a modified putty-wash impression technique. In this method, the hydraulic pressure induced from planned flowing the wash material from the inner surface of putty impression toward the vestibules pull over the gingival tissues covering the finishing line. This simple method reduces the need to using retraction cord in normal depth finishing line...

Gingival retraction or dilation is an important procedure in the fabrication of fixed prostheses. Quite often, the margins of these restorations are placed very close to the gingival margin, or even subgingivally, for aesthetic and functional reasons. Therefore, the operating surgeon must correctly record the prepared cervical finish line to enable adequate marginal integrity for the restoratio...
متن کاملGingival Retraction Methods for Fabrication of Fixed Partial Denture: Literature Review
Fixed dental prosthesis success requires appropriate impression taking of the prepared finish line. This is critical in either tooth supported fixed prosthesis (crown and bridge) or implant supported fixed prosthesis (solid abutment). If the prepared finish line is adjacent to the gingival sulcus, gingival retraction techniques should be used to decrease the marginal discrepancy among the resto...

Day to day practice at a dental office is a challenging one where a dentist has to ideally confront a situation with his command and expertise. One such frequent situation arising is that concerned with isolation techniques associated with a restorative procedure. Various isolation techniques are put forth in practice which includes use of a saliva ejector, a rubber dam and gingival retraction ...
متن کاملQuick, painless, and atraumatic gingival retraction: An overview of advanced materials
The success of any fixed prosthesis depends on the accuracy of impressions. Finish line exposure has to be adequate during impression making. The goal of gingival retraction is to atraumatically displace gingival tissues to allow access for impression material to record the finish line and provide sufficient thickness of gingival sulcus so that the impression does not tear off during removal. N...
